Development of laboratory systems with Mylab

Mylab is Finland’s leading supplier of laboratory information systems. In 2020, Mylab launched a significant project with the goal of improving sample management and processes in genetics laboratories. The system being developed required a robust software solution to manage the complex processing of sample data. Netum Consulting (formerly Buutti Oy) has been collaborating with Mylab since 2021, and our consultants have brought much-needed additional resources to the team.

Consultants from Netum Consulting joined Mylab’s development team to support the project by contributing strong expertise in both frontend and backend development. The consultants have been working particularly with Spring, Kotlin, and React technologies. On the database side, PostgreSQL has been used. Although Kotlin and the genetics domain were new to many team members, the collaboration has proceeded smoothly. Teemu, one of Netum’s consultants, says that choosing Kotlin has proven to be the right decision, as it has enabled development work to progress even more smoothly than with traditional Java-based solutions.

– Although the operations of genetics laboratories were new to me, it has been easy to collaborate with Mylab’s experts and quickly learn the project requirements, says Teemu, who works as a consultant on the project.

– Communication within the team is open and encouraging, and we have been given responsibility and trust in our development work, he continues.

– The Mylab team has been very professional and pleasant to work with. The work is done in a good spirit, and everyone has time to focus on development. This is my first time using Kotlin in a project, and I have learned a lot from it in particular, adds Jesse, another consultant from Netum.
