In constantly changing resource needs, Landis+Gyr relies on Netum Consulting Services
Landis+Gyr is the global market leader in integrated energy management solutions with more than 125 years of experience. Serving more than 3,500 network companies worldwide, the company provides comprehensive metering solutions ranging from remote reading to modern IoT innovations.
Despite its global reputation, Landis+Gyr is relatively unknown in Finland. Founded in the post-war originally as Valtion Mittaritehdas (state meter factory), the company later changed its name to Enermet Oy and then merged into Landis+Gyr. Currently, the company employs nearly 300 people in Finland. Despite its international parent company, the company is still very much rooted in Central Finland: Jyväskylä is home to the largest technology centre in the EMEA region.
– We design, develop and test embedded systems for remotely read electricity meters. Our laboratory simulates different weather conditions in order to test signal data and the wear and tear on meters. We also develop and test software for reading and recording meter data, says Ilkka Vastamaa, R&D Manager for the Landis+Gyr Jyväskylä office.
Flexible resourcing for rapidly changing situations
According to Vastamaa, customer needs in the energy sector keep changing, and the need for new software developers may come up at short notice.
– When customers want to customise our products, there is often a rush to get extra hands to do the development work, he says.
This is where Netum Consulting Services comes in: Over the years, Landis+Gyr has made extensive use of the company’s software development services. In particular, IT consulting and senior software developers have served as a good lever in situations where the company’s internal capacity has been insufficient.
– We have had access to skilled software developers when we needed them. Netum Consulting Services’ consultants have been an efficient way to patch up resource shortages, says Vastamaa.
Vastamaa praises the low threshold and smooth functioning of the cooperation as well as keeping regularly in contact with the customer.
– The collaboration has worked very well. We have held joint status meetings, and any challenges are always addressed in a good and constructive spirit. Netum Consulting Services is one of the first solutions we think of when facing surprising resourcing needs, says Vastamaa with a smile.

From agile resources to permanent employees
Over the years, Landis+Gyr has made job postings about open positions and sometimes it has been challenging to find experts that meet the company's needs. Netum Consulting Services has come to help in these challenges with their "try-and-hire" service, CodeMatch, and recruitment-oriented training courses. These services have helped Landis+Gyr to find permanent employees for its software development team.
– CodeMatch was an excellent way to find suitable candidates for us. We had a chat with the sales manager about our specifications in more detail and received a list of suitable candidates, says Vastamaa.
In spring 2025, the Landis+Gyr team grew via the Buutti Trainee Academy. The training was organised in cooperation with Central Finland employment services. According to Vastamaa, they were already looking for a slightly more experienced backend developer at the time of the training. Netum Consulting Services’ Sales Manager was in touch with Vastamaa at the right time and introduced him to Béla Borbély from the training course. Borbély impressed Vastamaa at the very first interview.
– I immediately saw that Béla was a great fit for us. He had the Java backend skills we were looking for, and he already had some experience in Robot Framework automation testing. The training updated Béla’s knowledge of modern technologies and project expertise. He was a great match and continued as a permanent employee after the on-the-job training period, says Vastamaa.
After the on-the-job training period, Béla Borbély continued as a permanent employee in Landis+Gyr.
High-quality work behind critical infrastructure
The importance of information security and multi-level testing is emphasised when producing critical infrastructure. According to Vastamaa, it is of paramount importance for their development work that their partners appreciate high quality.
– It is important that the partner shares our perception of quality and is committed to investing in it. Netum Consulting Services has provided us with excellent consultants who are invested in development and testing and get along well with the rest of the team.
In addition to information security and testing, Landis+Gyr values the importance of good team spirit. The Group employs 6,500 people worldwide, representing 23 different nationalities. The main language is English. The company is very proud of its multinational atmosphere and low turnover.
– We have international teams with good team chemistry. In my opinion, it is these factors along with a human-centred approach that make people enjoy working with us for a long time, says Vastamaa.
Backlog for years to come
According to Vastamaa, the future looks bright for Landis+Gyr, and the company intends to grow in the coming years. One objective, among others, is to further expand the Jyväskylä software development team.
– Our industry does not face similar cyclical fluctuations as many other industries. Even legislation stipulates that remotely readable electricity and water meters must be safe and reliable in all situations. This means that meters must be updated, which means that there will be work for the software, production and sales teams also in the future, he concludes.
In other words, there is backlog for years to come.
